Albany Student Press (ASP)

It Sounds Better in the Basement

My most recent column contribution to the ASP, a collaboration with current Managing Editor and personal friend Teresa Pavia. We bonded outside of the ASP through attending local shows together, and thought it would be a great opportunity to tell the stories of these organizers/venues. The underground music scene in Albany plays a huge role in student & city culture, so archiving these spaces is very important to us. The series started with The Byrdhouse and has continued to five more editions - and growing.

Tea Time with Danielle

My first official column contribution to the ASP based on my hobby for tea. As incoming Editor-in-Chief at the time, I wanted to set an example for younger writers to believe they could merge their passions with journalistic styles.

Capital Conversations: Jim Barrett - "Music Keeps you Young"

This article began as a journalism course assignment to interview a local about their career, in their own words. I opened the spotlight to Troy, NY native Jim Barrett on his lifetime hobby-turned-career collecting & playing records.

Ten New York State Musicians You Need to Check Out

The article that started it all. This is the first ever Albany Student Press playlist article, created with local indie musicians in mind. This article reached social media success, garnering hundred of clicks and lead to my eventual decision to create the ASP Spotify and Echo Podcast.

UAlbany Mail Services in Limbo Under Preferred Name Policy

I am not only a feature writer! I often contribute to local news stories, particularly those that affect my peers. I am proud of the affect this article had on my campus community, sparking conversation on the hot-button issue of using preferred names in official situations.

WCDB Revamps Post-Pandemic

Another example of my entrance into music-inclusive writing. I sat down with the UAlbany public radio station General Manager for some insight into their expansion and to hopefully aid in promoting their group. This was the first of many collaborations the ASP had with WCDB during my time with the ASP.
